Over the last ten years, Fontpad has established a unique position in the world of multilingual typography. With our exclusive focus on Southeast Asia, we work with tech companies and other foundries to bridge the gaps between global reach and local contexts.
Our key expertise lies in extending font support to Southeast Asian scripts. Our primary goal is to give local users the same choice, quality and typographic features as users of the Latin script expect. By collaborating with local type designers, by basing our work on years of research and practice, and by using the latest tools and techniques, we produce fonts that honour each script’s individual heritage while translating them for the digital age, bug-free, across multiple devices and media.
Alongside the drawing and production of new fonts, we actively reach out to minority language groups in Southeast Asia to understand the writing systems they use; this often brings to light new scripts or orthographies, which we help to document and draft Unicode proposals for, eventually leading to full digital enablement of their languages.
